Typically, most of the samples can be pulverized by a grinder during an experiment. However, there are also some samples that cannot be processed by using normal grinding method. In this case, we need to use grinding aids to facilitate size reduction process. Grinding aids are commonly used in Ball Mills, Vibratory Disc Mill, and Mortar Grinder. It should be noted that, before adding grinding aid, make sure that the grinding aid will not have an side impact on your experimental results.

  1. Solid grinding aids: common solid grinding aids are sodium sulfate, when we use Mortar Grinder or Vibratory Disc Mill to grind sample, you can add sodium sulfate to prevent sample agglomeration;
  2. Liquid grinding aids: common liquid grinding aids are water, alcohol, benzene. When grinding glass, ceramics, ores, metal powders, you can add water or alcohol to ensure fine grinding results;
  3. Gas grinding aids: gas grinding aids are usually inert gases. Generally, it is used by Planetary Ball Mill with the ventilation device and mills with the cyclone collection device.
